You should check your exhaust system regularly to keep your car running smoothly and safely, and to avoid expensive repairs:

Some things you can check for when inspecting your exhaust system include:
  • Holes or cracksCheck for holes or cracks in your exhaust pipes, which can let carbon monoxide into the car. 
     
  • Soot and black marksLook for streaks of soot and black marks around the connections and flanges. 
     
  • RattlingA rattling sound coming from under the car could indicate that the exhaust pipe or catalytic converter has come loose. 
     
  • Worn hangers or rubber isolatorsInspect and replace any worn hangers or rubber isolators. 
     
  • Flex pipeCheck the flex pipe, as it’s a common area where there’s failure. 
     
  • BlockagePerform an engine vacuum or back pressure test to check for blockage in the system.
